General Information:
The Carmel Mission is open to the public
on Monday through Saturday from 9:30 AM
to 5:00 PM and on Sunday from 10:30 AM
to 5:00 PM. Please call the Mission at
(831) 624-1271, extension 210 to check
on the holiday schedule.
The all-inclusive admission fee to visit
the Mission grounds, Basilica and
Museums is as follows: Adults: $5;
Seniors: $4; Children under 17: $1.
These funds are used to support the
continued restoration of the Carmel
Mission.
Although there are stairs in some
places, several areas are wheelchair
accessible.
Please be aware that the Carmel Mission
is an active parish and as such has
services on Sunday mornings and events
such as weddings or funerals on
Saturdays or during the week which may
limit accessibility to the Basilica.
Self-Guided Tours:
Many people visit the Mission on a
self-guided basis and a small brochure
is provided as a guide to the history
and the grounds. The brochure is also
provided in several languages for our
foreign visitors including French,
Spanish, German, Italian, Polish,
Russian, Korean and Japanese. Throughout
the week, trained Docents are often
available on site or at the Information
Kiosk to augment your visit, and
complimentary tours at 10 AM and 2 PM
may be provided if a Docent is present.
You can check with the Tour office for
Docent availability. Call (831)
624-1271, extension 213.
Docent-Led Tours:
A Docent-led tour schedule is
developed monthly based on docent
availability and visitor requests. If
you would like to arrange for a
Docent-led tour or want to determine
when a Docent-led tour will be
conducted, we recommend calling the Tour
office (831) 624-1271, extension 213. If
your schedule permits for a Docent-led
tour, it is sure to enrich your
experience of the Mission. Docent-led
tours are available for $7 per person.
The minimum size of the group should be
at least 15 persons.

Group Tours:
Many groups including organized
tours, cruise ship excursions, wedding
parties and guests, associations or
corporate teams include a visit to the
Mission as part of their itinerary.
Group tours led by experienced Docents
can be conducted in the evenings as
well. For your group to have a complete
experience of the Carmel Mission, we
recommend scheduling a tour. Group tours
are available for $7 per person. The
minimum size of the group should be at
least 15 persons. To learn more about

School Tours:
The California Mission system is
studied as part of the California
elementary school curriculum (4th
grade). Additionally, some high schools
also include early California history,
including the Mission system, as part of
their curriculum. We would be pleased to
provide Docents for school groups based
on Docent availability on a first come,
first served basis. The Docents are a
good source of specific details and
historical content and can make
students’ visits more meaningful and
interesting. The fees for school tours
are the same as for general admission
($1 for students and $5 for each adult),
and the tours generally last from 45
minutes to one hour. Schools must
contact the Tour Office to schedule the
time and date of their tour and to
ensure docent availability.
