Music Ministry

The Carmel Mission Basilica Schola Cantorum is a traditional choral ensemble which assists with the music leadership every week at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Additionally, the choir prepares “Lessons and Carols” during Advent and sings at Mass on December 24th and December 25th. The choir is also very active in participating in Holy Week every year. The repertoire of the group is drawn from the works of both contemporary and traditional lliturgical music.

To praise God through prayer and song.
To promote full participation by the assembly during Mass.
To maintain quality musicianship while effectively leading the assembly.
To develop a sense of community as church and choir.
To meet the needs of individuals through prayer and action.

Rehearsals are Thursday evenings, 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

The Cantor, a singer who regularly leads the congregation in Responsorial Psalms and other Refrain-Verse parts throughout the Mass, is blessed with special musical gifts: an exceptional singing voice, combined with excellent sight-reading skills.
