IN THE MORA CHAPEL
GALLERY through December 1, 2008
October 1st was the final day to view
Phase I of The Carmel Mission in Art
Retrospective Exhibition: Photography,
1879-2007. Upon removal, the digitally
enlarged pictures selected from the
Hathaway collection have been assembled
into a portfolio that will become a
permanent part of the Carmel Mission
Museum Collections, thanks to the
generosity of the Dolan Capital
Management Group.
During most of October, the Jo Mora
Chapel Gallery was "dark" while our
multi-talented custodial staff refitted
the display cabinets for Phase II: The
Carmel Mission in Painting, 1827-2007.
The new exhibition, which opened to the
Mission’s Circle of Arts Patrons at a
private reception on Friday, October
26th and to the public on Saturday,
October 27th, has received very high
reviews for its beauty and composition.
It will remain on view through April,
2008. Oil paintings of the Mission
selected for this exhibit by Julianne
Burton-Carvajal, Ph.D. have been loaned
to the Mission by museums, galleries and
private collections from across
California.
Our guest-curator, Dr. Burton-Carvajal
is interested in viewing drawings,
etchings, prints, pastels, and
watercolors of Carmel Mission for
possible inclusion in Phase III: Works
on Paper, 1786-2008. If you have or know
of works you would like her to view,
contact her at
julianne@ucsc.edu or 645-9925.
This program of exhibitions is made
possible by the generosity of
individuals, families, and businesses
that join the Carmel Mission Circle of
Art Patrons. New members will enjoy a
private preview reception for Phase III:
The Carmel Mission – Works on Paper on
the eve of the general opening. For more
information about joining the Circle of
Art Patrons, please contact Lou Sanna at
lsanna.carmelmission.org or 624-1271 x
